The Montgomery Family sang at Mount Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday, February 16, at 10:30 a.m. during the worship service.
Mount Calvary Baptist Church Pastor Harold Cooke introduced the Montgomery Family to the congregation and turned the service over to them.
The Montgomery Family, who lived in Monroe, N.C., began the family ministry in 1971 with parents and 2 young daughters. The parents, Harold and Ronda Montgomery, led the group with Harold singing tenor and Rhonda singing and playing piano. Mrs. Montgomery is 81 years of age and still enjoys playing the piano.
The two daughters, Robin and Lisa, began singing at a very early age.
However, at the young age of only 9 months, Robin was very ill. The doctor in Monroe suggested that Harold and Rhonda take Robin to Charlotte, N.C. to learn more about Robin’s medical issue. It turned out that she had a third kidney that was diseased. The medical team did the surgery in hopes that she would live 6 or 7 years…today she is 68 years old and going strong for the Lord. Never quit praying!
Lisa was born 4 years after Robin.
Lisa, too, had some medical issues. She had Spinal Meningitis. The family was informed that she would be blind or not be able to hear. Once again, the Lord answered prayers. She was healed and still performs today.
The goal of this group has always been providing southern gospel music and testimony that would bring people to a saving knowledge of the Lord.
Lisa is married to Jeff Simpson who is not only her husband and father of two, but also part of The Montgomery Family and sings. Robin Montgomery Stegall and Lisa Montgomery Simpson are the other two members of the present group.
The Montgomery Family has recorded several projects and has sung all over the east coast and several mission trips to Canada.
The Montgomery Family blessed the Mount Calvary Congregation with southern gospel music and testimony.
At the end of the service, an invitation was given.
Mount Calvary Baptist Church is located at 405 Mount Calvary Road, Dillon.
