Residents across the Palmetto State are invited to participate in the 2025 South Carolina 7 (SC7) Expedition, a month-long celebration of South Carolina’s natural beauty, environmental stewardship, and outdoor adventure.
Now in its sixth year, SC7 is a signature initiative of Global Eco Adventures and the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor. The event spans the month of July and follows a trail from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Lowcountry, highlighting the state’s most iconic natural landmarks, rivers, and wilderness areas.
More than just a hike, the SC7 Expedition is a call to action. It brings together environmental leaders, educators, conservationists, public officials, and citizens to raise awareness about protecting South Carolina’s natural resources and building resilient communities in the face of environmental change.
This year’s events include guided hikes, river cleanups, resiliency education stops, and adventure-based excursions such as whitewater rafting and coastal kayaking. Each stop is designed to educate and inspire participants of all ages and backgrounds.
The initiative is led by Dr. Tom Mullikin, who serves as the founder of Global Eco Adventures and Director of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Under his leadership, the SC7 Expedition has become a nationally recognized model for linking outdoor recreation with environmental advocacy.
“Our goal is to connect people to the land and leave it better than we found it,” said Dr. Mullikin. “By showcasing the beauty of South Carolina and promoting sustainable practices, we’re creating a legacy of stewardship and resilience.”
Among the many supporters of SC7 is Jacorie McCall, a citizen of Dillon, South Carolina, and a student at Mississippi College School of Law.
“I have been supporting this organization since 2020,” McCall shared. “The first time was when we planted millions of trees across South Carolina. Lt. Governor Pamela Evette asked me to be involved — that event was historic. Since then, this group has truly evolved to a statewide expedition, thanks to people like Clark Gray, Brantly Tomlinson, Thomas Mullikin Jr., and Dr. Mullikin himself, who work throughout the year to bring our state together to witness the Lord’s garden. This year feels different without my dear friend Mary Elizabeth Mullikin. I’ll be thinking of her at many of the events. I hope others from across the state join in and become part of this powerful experience.”
The SC7 Expedition is open to the public, and community members are encouraged to join for a day, a weekend, or the entire journey.
