The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office announces that on February 6, 2026, the body of Richard Thomas Sweat was recovered. The body will be transported at a later date for an autopsy.
Sheriff Jamie Hamilton extends his sincere gratitude to all agencies and individuals who assisted in this matter, including the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, Dillon County Emergency Services Personnel, Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR), and the CUE Center for Missing Persons.
