Segars Appointed to FDTC Area Commission

Florence, S.C. – Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) proudly announces the return of Goz Segars to the Florence-Darlington Technical College Area Commission. A longtime advocate for technical education and economic development, Mr. Segars brings decades of leadership experience and community service to the commission.
“Florence-Darlington Technical College has always been a leader in education in the Pee Dee area, and I want to help ensure that continues,” Segars said. “My goal is to understand the college’s current mission, support its initiatives, and do whatever I can to help reach more students and strengthen our connection with industry.”
Mr. Segars was first appointed to the Florence-Darlington Area Commission for Technical Education in 1972, he served in various leadership roles, including two terms as Vice Chairman and two terms as Chairman. His commitment to higher education and economic development has been evident through his extensive involvement in organizations across South Carolina.
Over the years, Mr. Segars has played a pivotal role in advancing education, business, and community development. He was a charter member of the Florence-Darlington Technical College Educational Foundation, a founding board chairman of the Hartsville YMCA, and the lead organizer and chairman of Heritage Community Bank. His dedication to economic growth in Darlington County was further recognized when he was named Darlington County Economic Ambassador of the Year in 1993 and Volunteer of the Year for the South Carolina Economic Developers’ Association in 1999.
Beyond his work with Florence-Darlington Technical College, Mr. Segars has held influential positions at Clemson University, Coker College, and numerous other organizations. His contributions to Clemson University include serving as Chair of the Clemson University Foundation, Vice Chair of the Clemson Real Estate Foundation, and a founding member of the Clemson University Land Stewardship Foundation. In 2024, he was honored with Clemson University’s prestigious Gold Medallion Award, the institution’s highest recognition.
“I am honored to welcome Mr. Segars to our board and look forward to working with him,” FDTC Area Commission Chairman Dr. Ershela Sims said. “This will be his second time serving on the board, so his experience, insights, and guidance will be invaluable.”
A proud Clemson University alumnus, Mr. Segars and his wife, Pat, have raised a family deeply rooted in service and leadership. They are the proud parents of Ellen, Ben, Gray, Frances, and David.
