Latta Lady Viking softball player, Samantha Townsend, signed with Columbia International University although she was offered from other universities, this university “checked all of her boxes”. She will major in health science.
After devoting 12 years to the sport she loves, she will be able to continue her career at the next level at a faith-based university that will help her to grow her spirituality. Faith, family, and then everything else God has planned for her.
Townsend cannot single out an individual who influenced her most in softball. She knows she loves to play and her parents supported her in her dream of being able to play at a college/university level.
Townsend recalls that winning the state title in her junior year to be the most memorable event to this point in her softball career.
As she will transition from the high school level to the university level, she will continue to play with all the talent that she has as it will be a privilege to play at the next level.
Townsend was not only a great player at softball where she played middle infield; she also excelled at volleyball. While playing softball, she made All-Region.
Although Townsend is dedicated to the softball as it takes up a lot of her time, she does enjoy spending time with her friends.
Townsend’s parents, Branford and Jackie Townsend, remarked “We are so proud of her achievements. She is such a hard worker. She is always working to improve her craft, and when she’s not doing that, she’s teaching the next youth. She sets goals and strives to meet and most times exceed those goals. We are so glad to have been a part of her journey as she has reached the ultimate goal of playing the collegiate level. She’s earned every bit of it and never takes it for granted. She knows the privilege she has been blessed with.”
