Pyerian Baptist Church Hosts Unity In The Community

The second of the Fourth Annual Unity In The Community worship services was held on Sunday, September 15, at 6:00 p.m. at the Pyerian Baptist Church with guest speaker Dr. D. J. Horton.
Pyerian Baptist Church’s Pastor, the Rev. Dr. James Orr, opened the service with prayer and welcomed everyone. Announcements were kept very brief.
The Pyerian Baptist Church choir and the congregation sang “Higher Ground” followed by a special hymn by the choir.
A duet composed of Jean Snipes and Julie Minshew sang blessed the congregation with a hymn, “The Goodness of God”.
Dr. Orr introduced Dr. D. J. Horton. Dr. Orr stated “Dr. Horton loves Jesus, he loves his family, and he loves God’s Church and people”.
Dr. Horton preached revival services at Pyerian Baptist Church in 2011.
Dr. Horton is married with 7 children, one of whom he and his wife adopted a few weeks ago, a girl 5 years old.
In 1986 Dr. Horton was saved during a fifth Sunday night service. He has pastored a church in Spartanburg for 21 years. He began there at the age of 25. He announced that a new church in Spartanburg was being launched during the service last night. This church was located on his church’s campus.
Dr. Horton’s sermon was from 1 Corinthians, Chapter 12: 12-20 of the King James Version.
An invitation was given at the conclusion of this service followed by the Postlude.
