The Pee Dee Academy Lady Golden Eagles defeated the Dillon Christian School Lady Warriors 52-30 in varsity basketball played in Dillon on Friday, January 24.
Dillon Christian School controlled the tipoff, but Pee Dee Academy’s Rebecca Hammond sank a 3-point basket for the first points of the game on her way to scoring 26 points in the game. Another basket by Pee Dee quickly gave the Golden Eagles a 5-point lead. Rebecca Hammonds sank a free throw to go up 6. The Lady Warriors’ Braylen Carter connected for a free throw to break the ice for Dillon Christian School. Chloe Powell sank a free throw for the Lady Warriors. The Golden Eagles’ Claire Eskridge hit a long 3 followed by a Dillon Christian School 2-point basket. A free throw by Pee Dee Academy gave the Lady Golden Eagles a 10-4 lead. The lead increased to 8 points on a 2-point basket for the Golden Eagles followed by a 2-point basket and a free throw by Rebecca Hammond to give the visitors a 15-4 lead. Katie Estes added a 2-point basket for Pee Dee that was answered by Dillon Christian School’s Lily King with a 2-point basket of her own. After the first quarter of play, Pee Dee Academy led 17-6.
The Golden Eagles added a 2-point basket followed by a 2-point basket by Rebecca Hammond. Dillon Christian School’s Bralen Carter blocked a shot attempt by Rebecca Hammond. After a scramble for a loose ball, Caroline Elvington attempted a shot from the corner. The Lady Warriors’ Lily King laid one in for 2 points followed by a 2-point basket by the Lady Warriors to cut the lead to 11, 21-10. Fraley Britt sank a free throw followed by a 2-point basket by Dillon Christian School. The Golden Eagles’ Nylee Causey connected for 2 points. DCS scored a 2-point basket that was answered by Rebecca Hammond to close out the first half with Pee Dee on top 25-15.
The Lady Warriors’ Shelby Dial banked one in for 2 points followed by Bralen Carter with a 2-point basket to cut the lead to 6 points, 25-19. Of course, it was time for Rebecca Hammond to sink a 2-point basket for Pee Dee Academy. Hammond was fouled on her next attempted shot and sank 2 free throws. Pee Dee connected for another 2-point basket followed by Meredith Larrimore who also sank a 2-point basket to give the Golden Eagles a 37-19 lead. Alayne Locklear laid one in for 2 points for DCS. Claire Eskridge connected for a free throw for Pee Dee. After 3 quarters of play, Pee Dee Academy led 40-21.
Bralen Carter quickly scored a 2-point basket to start the final quarter of play. Katie Estes hit a basket for 2 points for Pee Dee and followed that basket with another 2-point shot. Estes sank another basket for 2 points for the #3 basket in a row. DCS’s Chloe Powell connected for a free throw. The Golden Eagles’ Madison Baxley hit a 2-point basket. Alayna Locklear scored a 2-point basket for DCS. Pee Dee Academy’s Kyndal Larymore sank a free throw followed by Nylee Causey who sank 2 free throws. DCS’s Fraley Britt managed a 2-point basket for the final points of the game.
Dillon Christian School is 3-7 overall. Pee Dee Academy is 14-3 overall and 4-0 in Region play.
Dillon Christian School will host Williamsburg Academy on Tuesday, January 28, at 7:00 p.m.
Pee Dee Academy will face Florence Chrisitan on Tuesday, January 2, at 6:00 p.m.
