Recently, representatives from Harbor Freight Tools for Schools, the Harbor Freight Fellows Initiative and Big Picture Learning came on site to observe Industrial Maintenance Youth Resident Markis Wells. The visit included Scott Springer, Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Educator, Charlie Plant, Regional Coordinator for Harbor Freight Fellows Initiative, and Elliot Washor, Co-Founder of Big Picture Learning.
Markis, a student from Darlington High School, is participating in the Industrial Maintenance Youth Apprenticeship program. He said he is learning hands-on skills he would not be able to obtain in the classroom. Markis is being guided in the program by his mentor Lee Burris, McLeod Director of Construction, and Matthew Peake, McLeod Health Careers Program Coordinator.
The Industrial Maintenance Youth Apprenticeship program, a partnership between McLeod, Big Picture Learning and Harbor Freight Fellows, is funded by a grant from Power:Ed, the Philanthropy of SC Student Loan Corporation.
