Mullins Police Department Makes Arrest In Murder

The Mullins Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division has charged Shaquan Ahmad Champion, 23 years old, of Mullins, South Carolina, with Murder and Possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Champion allegedly shot Kenneth Lasane Jr. on June 23rd, 2024, while at a party on Barnes Street in the City of Mullins. Champion then fled the state with the help of two family members and was later apprehended in Michigan.
At the time this incident took place, Champion was out on bond for Attempted Murder from a previous shooting incident in the City of Mullins. This apprehension was a combined effort by the Mullins Police Department, State Law Enforcement Division Fugitive Unit, Ohio State Patrol, Michigan State Police, Michigan State Police Swat Team, and the United States Marshall Service. Champion will be extradited from Michigan to South Carolina at a later date.


In addition, the family members who helped Champion flee have been criminally charged with Accessory after the fact – felony murder. These two family members have been identified as – Thomas Rashad Champion and Shaday Cash. They are currently incarcerated in the State of Ohio awaiting extradition. This apprehension was possible with the use of Flock license plate reader technology.
