Mullins Auctioneers Get 6-0 Win Over Latta

The Mullins Auctioneers won 6-0 over the Latta Vikings in a low-scoring contest in varsity football played in Latta on Friday, September 13.
Ryan Perritt took the opening kickoff for Latta. Mackinley Wallace carried on the first offensive play followed by Amir Rogers who carried on the next offensive play and Makinley Wallace picked up a first down on the following play. Mackinley Wallace rushed for a few yards on second down. Latta faced a second and 2, Makinley Wallace again picked up a first down. The Mullins defense arose to the occasion and stopped Mackinley Wallace on the next play for no gain. After an incomplete pass, Latta faced a fourth down and 13 yards to go. A 5-yard penalty against the Auctioneers made it fourth and 8 yards to go. Latta’s #3, Conley Dailey attempted a field goal that was no good.
Mullins’ Anthony Campbell carried. Kanazzion Bethea threw an incompletion. Mullins faced a fourth down and a long 1 yard to go. Kanazzion Bethea kept for a first down. A pass interference call against the Latta Vikings moved the football to Latta’s 47-yard line. Mullins picked up a 5-yard penalty that presented the Auctioneers with a first down and 15 yards to go. Mullins managed a 6-yard pickup on the second down. On third and 9, an incomplete pass by the Auctioneers stopped the drive. Mullins’ #15, Da’karai Worley punted.
Latta took over on their own 15-yard line. The Vikings were forced to punt. A Latta miss snap gave Mullins the football on Latta’s 39-yard line.
After the first quarter of play, the score was knotted at 0.
Mullins’ #9, Lebron Avant was stopped on fourth down and 5 yards to go.
Latta took over on their own 33-yard line. Latta quickly picked up three first downs in a row but the drive ended, and the Mullins Auctioneers took over on downs on their own 17-yard line. A penalty against Latta gave Mullins a first down. With no offense on this series of downs, Mullins’ #15, Da’Karai Worley punted to Latta’s 30-yard line.
Mullins was penalized for 15 yards to give the Vikings a first down. On the next play, Latta was penalized 15 yards for holding. Latta then faced a first down and 25 yards to go. Jayden Alford rushed for a pickup followed by Makinley Wallace who carried to Mullins’ 35-yard line. Latta faced a fourth down and 8 yards to go. Mullins took over on their own 36-yard line with 16.6 seconds remaining in the first half.
Kanazzion Bethea carried, and Latta’s defense was charged with a facemask penalty. The first half ended on an incomplete pass.
At halftime, the Latta band performed to everyone’s delight.
Latta attempted an onside kick to begin the third quarter. Mullins started on their own 48-yard line. Mullins faced a fourth down and elected to punt. Mullins’ #15, Da’karai Worley’s punt ended up on Latta’s 10-yard line.
The Latta Vikings faced a fourth down and 4 yards to go deep in their own territory, Jayden Alford punted. Latta recovered a fumble to give the Vikings new life on offense. Latta once again faced a fourth down. Jayden Alford’s punt was blocked, and Mullins’ #0, Ayntwain Crawford scored the only points of the game with 3:57 remaining in the third quarter. An incomplete pass prevented the 2-point conversion but Mullins was up 6-0 in this low-scoring game.
Latta began on their own 26-yard line after the kickoff. A personal foul against the Mullins Auctioneers moved the pigskin to Latta’s 45-yard line. Makinley Wallace picked up 3 yards on the first down. On the second down, Makinley Wallace picked up 4 yards. Makinley Wallace was stopped on third down. Latta faced a fourth down and 3 and elected to attempt a first down but Makinley Wallace was stopped short.
Mullins took over on their own 47-yard line. At the end of 3 quarters, Mullins led 6-0. The Auctioneers moved the football and attempted a field goal that was unsuccessful.
A Latta pass was intercepted by Mullins’ #8, Ny’zir Howard on Mullins’ 26-yard line. A flag against Latta moved the football to Mullins’ 40-yard line. On fourth down and 9 yards to go, Mullins’ #15, Da’karai Worley punted. Mullins was again on the move and found themselves on Latta’s 13-yard line. Mullins’ #9, Lebron Avant fumbled, and Latta recovered in the end zone.
Latta took over on their own 20-yard line. Latta’s Makinley Wallace picked up a first down. Adrian McDonald carried to Mullins’ 29-yard line after the reception to give Latta good field position. However, there was only 1 minute remaining in the game. Jayden Alford carried for 6 yards. Faced with a fourth down and 6 yards to go with time running out, Latta attempted a pass. Mullins took over with 46.7 seconds remaining in the game.
