MEET THE CANDIDATES: Randy Tyler-Latta Town Council

My name is Randy Tyler and I am running for a position on the Latta Town Council. I am 67, a veteran, a retired Deputy Sheriff and a former high school teacher. I have spent most of my adult life in the service of others and it was where I always felt called to be. I was not raised in Dillon County but my family roots go back many generations, and I have lived here in the Latta area for about 25 years.
I joined the army right after high school, served for three years then left service to attend East Carolina University graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice. Afterwards, I returned to the army as an officer for another seven years. After leaving service for the last time, I worked briefly at Campbell University in public information, before deciding to move to Dillon County to serve as a deputy sheriff. In 2014 I had an opportunity to teach law enforcement at the high school level which I did for eight years. More than a few of my students now serve in law enforcement including one here in the Town of Latta.
After retiring from teaching I still felt the call to serve. Latta has always been a part of my life. When I was growing up, it was where my grandmother lived. Now it is where I live and its importance to me cannot be stressed enough. I feel that serving on the town council I can perhaps help to steer Latta to remaining the fine town that it is and serve as an example of small town South Carolina life.
I would appreciate your vote on December 2nd. Thank you.
