The McLeod Health Foundation has received a grant of $48,077 from CCME Foundation, a North Carolina-based non-profit organization sponsored by Constellation Quality Heath, to support the McLeod Health Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Program. The funding will maintain the services of the McLeod NFP program in Marion County, SC.
NFP is a nationwide community health program that brings regular home visits by nurses to low-income, first-time mothers from pregnancy through the child’s second birthday. Nurse Home Visitors (NHV) improve short and long-term wellbeing through medical care, referrals to community resources, and education on topics like prenatal health, breastfeeding, and creating a safe home environment.
Mothers in the Nurse-Family Partnership Program experience 35% fewer cases of pregnancy-induced hypertension, 18% fewer preterm births, and are more likely to finish their education and remain employed. Their children are 48% less likely to suffer abuse and neglect.
During the funding year, the Marion County Nurse Home Visitors will maintain a caseload of 25 to 30 clients and at least as many children, making approximately 704 home visits. The nurse will also enroll roughly 15 new clients and graduate seven mothers and children each year.
“We are delighted to partner with CCME in serving vulnerable mothers and children in Marion County. This funding provides critical support for the McLeod Nurse-Family Partnership Program and allows us to reach even more patients with life changing care,” said Elizabeth Jones, Executive Director of the McLeod Health Foundation.
