The MCHS Boys Wrestling Team is building serious momentum heading into next season.
Head Coach Anthony McMillan shared that 21 wrestlers will be returning next year, with only 6 seniors graduating. That strong core includes 10 returning juniors, 6 of whom were state qualifiers, along with 3 sophomores and 8 freshmen. Three wrestlers: Pierce, Stevens, and Williams, all had the opportunity to compete at the state championship this season.
This year, the Bulldogs finished third in the region, an impressive accomplishment in a highly competitive division. The team also defeated Loris, finished the season 7- 8, and advanced to the second round of the state dual team playoffs.
While we celebrate the team’s success, we also honor the dedication of seniors Garvin, Haley, and Chavis, who wrestled every match this season. Their leadership and commitment set the tone for the program. Coach McMillan also highlighted athletes like Bright, who practiced faithfully every day even when weight restrictions kept him from competing, demonstrating the heart and perseverance that define this team.
The growth has been remarkable. Next year’s goal is to finish in the top three in the region again and advance even further in the state dual team playoffs!!
The future is bright for MCHS wrestling, and this hardworking group is just getting started!
