Martha German Loses Home To Fire

By Betsy Finklea
Tragedy struck on Monday morning when Martha German, known to many as the mother of Dillon High School football, lost nearly everything when her home at 2521 Highway 57 North in the Little Rock area was destroyed by fire. This was the family home.
German said that she got up and she and her grandson got ready for work. They left the house about quarter after six. She dropped her grandson off, went on to work herself, and was working when she got the call that her house was on fire. She was nearby and cut through to see fire coming from her house. German said they currently believe that it was caused by an electrical issue.
Three fire departments fought the fire–Dillon County Fire Station One, Dillon County Fire Station Five, and the Clio Rural Fire Department.
After the fire was put out, German, a woman of great faith, prayed for the firefighters who had come to her home.
On Monday afternoon, German was at her house with many relatives and friends trying to salvage what little bit that could be salvaged. Of all the losses, it is the family photos and mementos that upset her the most. She was able to salvage a large throw with a picture of the family on it and a few other items. Despite her loss, she has kept in faith. “All we can do is trust in God,” German said.
Her son, Reggie, is accepting donations for German through Zelle at Baseball1997_2001@yahoo.com.
