The Marion Swamp Foxes edged the Latta Vikings 8-7 in varsity football action played in Marion on Friday, August 30.
The game was scoreless until the fourth quarter.
Latta’s Amir Rogers made a great run to set up Latta’s TD by Jayden Alford. The PAT was good. Latta led 7-0 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Latta’s punt was partially blocked, and Marion’s #7, Ka’Mari Watson, recovered it and carried the pigskin 49 yards into the endzone for 6 points. Marion’s Graham tossed the 2-point conversion to Irenaeus Gurley to give Marion an 8-7 lead over Latta.
Latta’s Jayden Alford completed 2 of 3 passes for 31 yards and also an interception. Adrian McDonald tossed a reception for 19 yards, and Fisher Richardson threw a completion for 14 yards for a grand total of 64 yards passing for Latta.
The Vikings’ Fisher Richardson rushed 18 times for 93 yards while Jayden rushed 15 times for 31 yards. Xy’Mari Bethea rushed 4 times for 2 yards for a Latta total of 126 yards.
Latta’s Adrian McDonald had 2 receptions for 45 yards. Makinley Wallace had a reception for 19 yards.
On defense for Latta, Xy’Mari Bethea had 11 tackles, 1 sack, and 4 tackles for losses. Tyquan Drawhorn had 10 tackles, 3 sacks, and a fumble recovery. Amir Rogers had 9 tackles, a sack, and 2 tackles for losses. Jakoby German had 7 tackles and a tackle for a loss. Kendrick Evans had 5 tackles. Makinley Wallace had 3 tackles and a tackle for a loss.
