Marion High School Students Get a Hands-On Taste of Healthcare with Franklin Home Health Agency

Exciting things are happening in Marion this April! Franklin Home Health Agency is teaming up with Marion School District and MUSC Hospital to give local high school students a rare opportunity—a real-world healthcare experience that lets them earn school credits while getting a taste of life in the medical field.
For students dreaming of a career in healthcare, this is more than just a class. It’s a chance to step out of the textbooks and into the action.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Through this unique program, students won’t just be sitting at a desk listening to lectures. Instead, they’ll be right in the middle of the action, learning from real healthcare professionals. They’ll assist with patient care inside homes, observe and help with required employee drug testing, and get hands-on experience working in a clinical lab. Plus, they’ll receive classroom instruction that ties everything together, making sure they understand both the science and the heart behind healthcare.
This isn’t just about learning—it’s about doing. It’s about feeling the responsibility, the teamwork, and the impact that comes with caring for others, says Yvette Aitkens-Franklin, Co-Founder & Administrator.

A Positive Start to a Bright Future

Starting a career in healthcare can feel overwhelming, but Franklin Home Health Agency wants to make sure these students walk away feeling confident and inspired. By working side by side with professionals, they’ll build real skills—teamwork, communication, problem-solving—that will help them in whatever path they choose.
“At Franklin Home Health Agency, we believe in giving back to our community,” said Yvette Aitkens-Franklin.. “This program is our way of investing in the future. We want these students to leave feeling excited about healthcare and the difference they can make in people’s lives.”

A Win for the Community
Franklin Home Health Agency has continued the efforts in making this experience a memorable one by collaborating with MUSC Hospitalof Marion and Marion High School. This reinforces the learning experience continues Mrs. Aitkens-Franklin—it’s a step toward building a stronger healthcare workforce right here in Marion.
