Manning Baptist Church To Observe 162nd Anniversary

The Manning Baptist Church will observe the 162nd anniversary on Sunday, November 17, beginning with Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. Immediately following Sunday School, the morning worship service will begin. Dinner will be served after morning worship service.

Ben and Sarah Manning started Manning Baptist Church in New Town at the site that is now Easterling Street. In 1876, the first church was built on the present site, 308 E. Calhoun.

The 162nd Anniversary Observance will honor fifty-year members.

The pastor, Dr. Rodney L. McCorkle, Sr, will give the morning message. Dr. McCorkle has been senior pastor at Manning Baptist Church since January 2014.

Before coming to Manning Baptist Church, he was pastor at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Loris, South Carolina. Additionally, he served as senior pastor at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Mt. Holley, North Carolina.

Dr. McCorkle was licensed to preach on April 2, 1990, by Macedonia Baptist Church, and was ordained on January 26, 1992, by Gaston Missionary Baptist Church Association, Gastonia, North Carolina.

Currently, Dr. McCorkle is employed by the Marion County Board of Education as Principal of Palmetto Middle School, Mullins, South Carolina.

Dr. McCorkle is the son of Mrs. Josephine Moore and the late Mr. Johnny McCorkle, and is the stepson of Mr. Turner Moore. He is also the father of two children, Kristen Gerald and Rodney (RJ) McCorkle, Jr, and grandfather of three grandchildren.
