On December 8, 2025, city officers responded to reports of gunshots at the Days Inn on Radford Boulevard. Officers learned that two individuals with gunshot wounds were being treated at McLeod’s Medical Center in Dillon. The investigation identified Samuel Elon Covington as the suspect. On December 10, 2025, deputies spotted a vehicle believed to be operated by Covington. After confirming his identity, deputies arrested him and transported him to the Dillon County Detention Center. Covington was charged with two counts of Attempted Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Possession of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime.
