On September 7th, 2025, Deputies responded to McLeod of Dillon in reference to a victim with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased moments later. The victim in this case was identified as Darrick Lamont Jones, 48, of Dillon.
During the investigation, Detectives have identified multiple individuals that were present when this incident occurred, and they are being interviewed.
Detectives determined one of the individuals at the scene of the shooting did willfully pick up items of evidence within the crime scene and did carry them away. The individual failed to advise law enforcement of doing so, impeding the investigation of this homicide.
Detectives did identify that individual as Marcus Demonshia Blakely, 38, of Florence SC.
On September 15th, 2025, Marcus Demonshia Blakely was charged and arrested for Obstructing Justice and booked into the Dillon County Detention Center.
