One of the talking points for the City of Dillon’s involvement in the municipal golf course has been the amount of money raised by local charities. At a recent meeting of the Dillon City Council, Mayor Tally McColl noted in his remarks that the Main Street Methodist Men’s golf tournament had been a huge success raising $47,000. He said 100 percent of the proceeds was donated to Helping Hands, who help provide food for the hungry in Dillon County. He said this will purchase 257,000 lbs. of food or seven tractor-trailer loads. In the last seven years, nearly $250,000 has been raised through golf tournaments to feed the needy. McColl said this is a blessing for the community, and he was so proud to do events like this at the golf course.
