Main Street Methodist Men Raise $47,000 For Helping Hands Food Pantry With Golf Tournament

The Main Street Methodist Church Men donated $47,000.00 to Helping Hands. These funds came from the 7th Annual Golf Tournament held at the City of Dillon Vivian Johnson Memorial Golf Course. This amount set an all-time high record as last year’s amount was $44,000.00. The total for all 7 years is over $250,000.00 donated to Helping Hands!
This $47,000.00 will purchase 257,000 pounds of food which is 7 tractor-trailer loads.
The people of Dillon County have always helped by donating to this worthy cause. In fact, people in Dillon County take care of the less fortunate ones in Dillon County.
Dr. Phil Wallace thanked everyone for coming for their generosity. Dr. Wallace remarked “The Bible calls us to feed the hungry and give drink to those who are thirsty. God has blessed us all! We are able to help others. Food is the bread of life given by Jesus Christ.”
Ronnie “Catfish” Carter reiterated Dr. Wallace’s comments. “Every penny of this money will be used to buy food. None of it will go to administration, stated Carter.
Carter was also asked to speak on behalf of the Johnson Family who were unable to attend due to a previous commitment. “The Johnson Family thanks everyone for all donations. This money will remain in Dillon County,” stated Carter.
Robert Johnson briefly thanked everyone for their support and donations.
There were 20 teams in this tournament. The rules this year were the same as last year.
Ronnie “Catfish” Carter informed us that the Main Street United Methodist Men have built 157 handicap ramps and metal handrails. The Methodist Men also donated 280 Christmas boxes last year. This year, the Main Street United Methodist Men have paid for the food and cooked for all of the city employees for events such as Celebrate Main Street and the City Clean Up. Additionally, the Main Street United Methodist Men will also purchase food and cook for the Sheriff/Police event for October 8 this year.
Main Street United Methodist pastor, Rev. Heny Altman blessed the tournament with prayer.
City of Dillon Mayor Tally McColl expressed his appreciation for the great work that the Main Street United Methodist Men had done, doing presently, and will continue to do for the residents of Dillon County. “It is a great blessing for all of us for the hard work and generosity of the Main Street United Methodist Men working for the betterment of our citizens in Dillon County,” remarked McColl.
