Loris Hands Dillon A Loss

The Loris Lions handed Dillon a loss in varsity basketball in Dillon on Thursday, January 9.
Loris controlled the tip-off and scored the first point on a free throw by Khalil Sherman. Dillon’s Jamarion Fling sank 2 free throws to give Dillon a 2-1. The Wildcats’ A. Johnson sank a 2-point basket. The Lions’ Jamarius Wilson laid one in for 2 points followed by Dillon’s Zamaurious Robertson’s 2 points basket. Loris responded with a 2-point basket followed by Dillon’s Niyonkuru Patrick who popped one in for 2 points. Loris’ Khalid Sherman rolled one in for 2 to cut Dillon’s lead, 8-7. Loris’ Jacobien Lewis tied the game at 8 with a free throw. Dillon’s L’Nauhre’ Bethea laid one in for 2 points. Loris’ Nigel Miller sank a free throw, and Loris connected for a 2-point basket to give Loris a 11-10 lead. Loris’ Nigel Miller sank 2 free throws. The Wildcats’ Ian Myers hit a 3 from the corner to knot the score at 13. Dillon’s Markis Morrison hit a 3 from the top of the key to give Dillon a 16-13 lead. Loris’ Jay Stevenson sank a free throw followed by Dillon’s Markis Morrison who sank a 2-point basket. After the first quarter of play, Dillon was up 18-14. Dillon committed 5 fouls, and Loris committed 4 fouls in the first quarter.
Loris connected for a 2-point basket as the second quarter began. Dillon missed 2 shots, and Loris made two 2-point baskets to take a 20-18 lead. Loris’ Khalid Sherman hit one for 2 points, and Jay Stevenson hit a 3-point basket for Loris to give Loris a 25-18 lead. Loris built a 10-point lead, 30-20. At halftime, Loris was up 33-24. Dillon committed 5 fouls in the second quarter while Loris committed only 1 foul.
In the third quarter of play, Loris began to pull away from Dillon. Loris quickly built up a 15-point lead, 46-31. With 2:51 remaining in the third quarter, Loris was up by 20 points, 53-33. The Wildcats managed to cut the lead to 14 points, 57-43 in the closing minutes of the third quarter. However, after 3 quarters of play, Loris was up 17 points, 62-45. Each team committed 4 fouls in the third quarter.
Dillon is 4-6 overall, and Loris is 6-6 overall.
Dillon will travel to Aynor on Tuesday, January 14, for a game after the varsity girls play.
