Bennettsville, SC – Marlboro County High School was alive with curiosity, creativity, and community spirit on Monday, October 20, 2025, as students and families gathered for the district’s Curriculum and STEM Night. The event, hosted by the Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment (CIA) Division under the leadership of Chief Academic Officer Teresa Battle, turned the campus into a vibrant hub of learning, laughter, and family engagement.
Blending hands-on science with family fun, the evening showcased how Marlboro County School District continues to make learning both exciting and meaningful—inside and outside the classroom.
STEM on Wheels: The Bus That Brings Learning to Life
A major highlight of the night was the district’s STEM Bus, a mobile classroom designed to bring innovation directly to students. The bus was the vision of Superintendent Dr. Helena Tillar, who imagined a space where students could explore all elements of STEM—Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through real-world, interactive experiences. Families lined up for tours and demonstrations, including a volcano experiment that turned textbook lessons into hands-on exploration. The excitement was electric as students connected what they learn in class to real-life applications.
Games, Good Eats, and Healthy Treats
Throughout the evening, the school grounds were filled with engaging activities that encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Students and parents participated in games that tested their logic and creativity while strengthening academic connections. Local food trucks provided a variety of delicious meal options, while fresh fruit and vegetable giveaways promoted healthy habits for families. The event balanced fun with focus—proof that learning can be both educational and enjoyable.
Incentives That Inspire
Students who attended were rewarded with homework passes, reinforcing the district’s message that participation and engagement are key to success. These small but meaningful incentives celebrated students’ dedication to learning and their families’ active support.
Prizes, Laughter, and Community Spirit
Door prizes added to the energy of the evening, with lucky winners taking home classroom supplies, family games, and other useful items.
Powered by Partnership
The success of CIA/STEM Night was made possible by the generous support of local businesses, faith-based organizations, and community partners who donated supplies, prizes, and donations.
Their contributions helped ensure every family left with something valuable—knowledge, excitement, and a sense of belonging.
The district extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a part in making the evening a success. Together, Marlboro County continues to prove that when schools and communities join forces, learning truly comes to life.
