The Latta Vikings, with Head Coach Brandon Iseman at the helm, are preparing for the upcoming football season in Region 6, 1 A.
The entire Latta football coaching staff from last year will be on the football field again this year. Of course, Brandon Iseman is the head coach. Matt Caulder is the offensive coordinator, Freddie Sawyer is coaching the offensive linemen, Brandon Page is the defensive linemen coach, Robbie Brown is the wide receivers and defensive backs coach, Pierce Watson is the defensive ends coach, and Chris Page is the running backs coach.
The Latta Vikings are coming off of an overall record of 9-2 for the 2023-2024 season and in Region play a 4-1 record.
After losing 15 players from last year, one would expect Latta to be low in experience which may be the case in certain positions. However, with good coaching and guidance from the seniors who have always done a great job holding the expectations of the Latta football program, the team should be able to compete again this year.
The offensive and defensive lines are talented groups with a lot more depth than in the past. The defense may be a little inexperienced but is improving each day. The receivers are talented and the coaches are working to build depth with them.
Although Latta lost Jamarion Jones who rushed for 1600 yards last season, the Latta running backs are physical downhill runners.
Latta’s field goal kicker and kick-off specialist, Conley Dailey, is one of the best in the area. In fact, he has been back-to-back special teams’ player of the year.
The special teams are a work in progress.
Latta’s quarterback is a talented athlete who has done a great job taking control as they prepare for region play. The seven members of the Class A region are Latta, Carvers Bay, Green Sea Floyds, Hannah-Pamplico, Hemingway, Johnsonville, and Lake View.
Latta will open the regular football season in Darlington on Friday, August 16. On August 23, Latta will travel to East Columbus and on August 30, the Latta Vikings will find themselves in Marion. McBee will invade Latta on September 6 as will Mullins on September 13. Green Sea Floyds will be in Latta on September 20. Latta will have a bye week on September 27. The Latta Vikings will travel to Carvers Bay on October 4. Latta will host Hemingway on October 11. Latta will travel to Lake View on October 18 for the annual in-county rivalry game. Latta will be on the road again on October 25 as the Vikings travel to face Hannah-Pamplico. Latta will close out the regular season on November 1 at home against Johnsonville. All games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
So, mark your calendars and be there to support your Latta Vikings.
