The Latta Vikings defeated the Lake View Wild Gators 3-1 in the varsity baseball game between the in-town rivals on Tuesday, April 9, in Lake View.
Two singles in the first inning put the visiting Vikings on top with a 2-0 lead. BW Berry singled first to drive in the first run of the game.
Latta managed 12 hits in the game while Lake View connected for 3 hits.
Latta’s Seth Minshew, the second baseman, had 3 hits and scored a run in 4 at-bats while Preston Brown, the pitcher, also collected 3 hits on 4 at-bats. Nick Lane, the third baseman, garnered 2 walks and a hit in 4 at-bats. Mason Weatherford, the catcher, had a hit and 2 walks in 4 at-bats. B. Berry, the first baseman, had 2 hits, scored a run, and picked up a rbi in 4 at-bats. C. Smith, the right fielder, had a hit in 3 at-bats. Fisher Richardson, the short stop, connected for a hit and scored a run in 4 at-bats. The designated hitter garnered a walk.
Lake View’s Luke King batted in the lone run for Lake View while Ian Capps, Parker Ammons, and Chris McColl each managed a hit.
The Latta Vikings did not commit an error. B. Berry had the most opportunities in the field with 8.
Preston Brown picked up the win for the Latta Vikings. The righty allowed 3 hits, 1 run, struck 6, and walked 4 in 7 innings. Chase Price suffered the loss for the Wild Gators. He pitched 5 and one-third innings and allowed 2 runs of which 1 was earned, 10 hits, struck out 5, and walked 2.
The Latta Vikings will travel to Hannah-Pamplico on Thursday, April 11.
