Latta Schools celebrated National School Breakfast Week March 3-7, 2025. This event, sponsored by the School Nutrition Association, celebrates the importance of a nutritious school breakfast for all students. National School Breakfast Week was launched in 1989 to raise awareness of the availability of the School Breakfast Program, a federally assisted meal program operating in public and non-profit private schools and residential childcare institutions since 1975. Latta schools understands that eating a healthy breakfast is important to fuel a student’s academic success!
Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. Fortunately, Latta schools offer nutritious school breakfasts, complete with fruit and low-fat or fat-free milk, to ensure students are fueled for learning every school day. Latta Elementary and Latta Middle Schools eat a nutritious breakfast in the classroom setting and Latta High School students come to the cafe to eat and socialize with their peers before starting the school day.
The 2025 NSBW campaign theme, “Clue In to School Breakfast,” reminds the entire school community that school breakfast provides a healthy and energizing start to the day for students. Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:
-Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
-Score higher on standardized tests
-Have better concentration and memory
-Be more alert
-Maintain a healthy weight

“A healthy breakfast at the start of the day is a great way to ensure students are nourished and ready to learn,” said Jenna Deaver, Director of Child Nutrition. “National School Breakfast Week helps us educate parents and students about all the nutritious and delicious choices we offer, all while having a little bit of fun in cafeteria.”
This week, the Latta cafeterias were decorated in a detective theme to help bring the mystery week to life. We even had a few “wanted” staff members for showing healthy eating habits. The cafeteria team engaged in the fun by dressing up, playing mystery music, and being healthy eating detectives, making the week interesting and enjoyable for the teachers and students. At the end of the week, we had a special detective, Detective McGruff, from the Latta Police Department join us at lunch to “detect” healthy eating. Please take a moment and look at some of the pictures that were captured having fun in the cafeteria this week.
