Latta Police Department Welcomes Two Police Chaplains

The Latta Police Department is privileged to welcome and recognize two Police Chaplains, Retired SLED Captain Paul Gasque and Bishop Calvin Pompey.
Paul Gasque is a former pastor in the United Methodist Church and retired Captain with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. These two vocations have afforded him opportunities to work with people of various cultures from all walks of life in challenging, heartwarming, and rewarding circumstances. He has served on mission teams in Rawanda and Malawi in Sub-Sahara Africa. Following his retirement from pastoral ministry, Paul participated in the Afterschool Program at New Hope Baptist Church. Several years later he and his wife, Laura, participated in a weekly Reading Buddy program at Latta Elementary School. They are blessed with a son and daughter-in-law and a daughter and son-in-law as well as two wonderful grandchildren.
Bishop Calvin Pompey Jr. brings over 45 years of pastoral ministry experience, including 25 years as senior pastor of Believers Worship Center Ministries in South Carolina. He holds a B.A. in English with a minor in African American Studies from Coker University, a Master’s in Education (Teaching) from Webster University, and a Master’s in Theology and Biblical Studies from Liberty University. Professionally, he has 14 years of experience as a Human Resources Business Partner and Generalist serving more than 1,800 employees, and he currently serves as HR Director for Dillon County, SC. A devoted husband to Shannon Pompey and father of six children, he values family as the foundation of community. His unique blend of pastoral leadership, academic training, family commitment, and human resources expertise equips him to provide compassionate spiritual care, crisis support, and ethical guidance to officers, their families, and the wider community in the role of Police Chaplain.
