The South Carolina Junior Scholar Award of Merit is awarded to students for outstanding intellectual achievement in the 2023-2024 South Carolina Junior Scholar Identification and Development Program. To qualify, 8th grade students must take PSAT and score 550 or higher on Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and/or 530 or higher on Mathematics.

Academic Challenge Team
With a team compromised of only sixth and seventh graders, the Latta Middle School Academic Challenge Team led an impressive season this year. During the Regional Competition in March, the Vikings accumulated 83 points during the round robin matches against various schools, where they narrowly lost out the opportunity to be in the finals. Overall, the Latta Vikings led an outstanding five-month season, winning four out of six regular season matches. Captain Bella Herring and Mady Hulon were named the season’s All-Star players for their incredible leadership throughout the season. We are proud of their performance and cannot wait to see how next season will go for the Academic Challenge team. We are expecting great things!
