The Latta Lady Vikings defeated the Johnsonville Lady Flashes in varsity softball played in Latta on Tuesday, March 18.
Latta retired Johnsonville in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the first inning behind the pitching of Paisley Jackson.
The score was tied at 1 after the first inning of play.
Johnsonville got on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Latta’s Katelyn Johnson (#15) led off the bottom of the second inning with a hit into short center for a single. Paisley Jackson garnered a walk to place runners on first and second. Erika (#11) hit one by third and a run scored to place runners on second and third. Latta’s #3 bunted and a run scored. Latta’s #17 hit a sac fly to right center and run #3 scored for Latta. Samantha Townsend (#6) hit one over the left fielder for a stand-up double and a rbi to give Latta a 4-1 lead. Chayse Walters (#4) hits a hot grounder to third to place runners on first and second. Maddie Berry (#16) hit one to right for a single and a rbi that placed runners on the corners. Katelyn Johnson (#15) lined one to left for a double and a rbi. Paisley Jackson hit a hot grounder to third that was bobbled. She beat the throw to first and a run scored to leave runners on the corners. After 2 innings of play, Latta led 7-1.
Paisley Jackson faced 4 batters in the top of the third inning with #2 garnering a walk. After 2 and ½ innings, Latta was up 7-1.
The Latta Lady Vikings had a very productive bottom of the third inning and added 12 runs including a 3-run home run by Maddie Berry to the scoreboard to give them a 19-1 lead after 3 innings of play.
The Johnsonville bats came alive in the top of the fourth inning and managed to score 3 runs. Latta led 16-4 at this time.
The final score was 19-6.
The 5-1 Latta Lady Vikings will travel to Hannah-Pamplico on Friday, March 21, for a 6:00 p.m. game.
The 3-4 Johnsonville Lady Flashes will host the Carvers Bay Lady Bears on Thursday, March 20, at 6:00 p.m.
