The 19-7 Latta Lady Viking’ quest for a state title in basketball came to an end on Monday, February 24, in North Charleston with a 77-34 win by the 25-5 Military Magnet Academy Lady Eagles. Military Magnet Academy was 8-0 in Region play. Latta was 10-2 and in second place in Region play.
Military Magnet Academy jumped out to an early 18-4 lead after the first quarter of play. Each team committed 5 fouls in the first quarter. At halftime, Latta had cut the lead to 9 points, 30-21. Once again, each team committed 5 fouls in the quarter. After the third quarter of play, Latta was down 52-27. Latta committed 5 fouls while Military Magnet Academy committed 3 fouls. In the final quarter of play, Latta committed 5 fouls while Military Magnet Academy committed 4 fouls.
Latta’s Kaliya Herman led the Lady Vikings with 16 points. She sank five 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and 3 free throws. Azarriona McRae added 5 points to the scoreboard with two 2-point baskets and a free throw. Layla Hyatt had two 2-point baskets for 4 points. Jeziyah Page had a 2-point basket and 2 free throws. Kardae McFadden and Ke’nyah Page each had a 2-point basket. Summer Page added a free throw.
Sabri Mitchell led all scorers with 20. The Military Magnet Academy’s Lady Eagles’ leading scorer had five 2-point baskets and 10 free throws. Danariyah Williams added 16 points to the scoreboard with five 2-point baskets and 6 free throws. Mariah Brown had two 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket, and a free throw for 8 points. Dejamari Pugh had as 2-point basket, a 3-point basket, and 3 free throws for 8 points. Lauren Willis had two 2-point baskets and 3 free throws for 7 points. Lamaria Brown added a 2-point basket and a 3-point basket for 5 points. Dream Watson had two 2-point baskets and a free throw for 5 points. Amauni Price connected for two 2-point baskets for 4 points. Jada Davis had a 2-point basket and a free throw for 3 points. Danariyah Williams added a free throw.
