The Latta Vikings edged the Hannah-Pamplico Raiders 5-4 in 9 innings in varsity baseball played in Pamplico on Friday, March 21.
Hannah-Pamplico placed a run onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Latta responded in the top of the second inning with a run to knot the score at 1. However, the Raiders added 2 runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Vikings responded in the top of the third inning with 3 runs to once again tie the score at 3. Latta added a run in the top of the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead. This lead would be short-lived as the Hannah-Pamplico tied the score with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Neither team could muster a score until Latta was able to add a run in the ninth inning to go up 5-4 for the win.
Latta’s Seth Minshew pitched .1 inning and allowed no hits and 1 walk. Mason Weatherford pitched 3.2 innings and faced 15 and allowed only 1 hit, 2 walks, struck out 10, and allowed no runs. Caden Lee pitched 5 innings and allowed 6 hits, 4 runs of which 2 were earned, walked 3, and struck out 2.
Latta managed 12 hits while holding Hannah-Pamplico to 4 hits. Latta committed 3 errors in the game while Hannah-Pamplico committed only 1 error.
The 3-4 Latta Vikings will travel to Lake View on Tuesday, March 25, for a 6:00 p.m. game with the 6-2 Lake View Wild Gators who defeated Fairmont on Friday, March 21, 11-1.
The 2-3 Hannah-Pamplico Raiders will play the 3-3 East Clarendon Wolverines on Tuesday, March 25.
