The Latta Vikings downed the Lake View Wild Gators 46-35 in varsity boys action played in Latta on Tuesday, January 28, before a large crowd.
The basketball game was fast-paced and physical from the tipoff that Lake View controlled.
The Wild Gators got onto the scoreboard first with a 2-point basket. From there, it was back and forth with blocked shots and fouls. With 2:57 remaining in the first quarter, Lake View was up 5-2. The game was knotted at 7, then 9. Lake View’s Jonathan Carter connected for a 2-point basket as the buzzer sounded to end the first quarter with Lake View on top 11-9. Latta committed 2 fouls while Lake View committed 5 fouls in the first quarter.
In the second quarter of play, Lake View pulled out to a 15-10 lead before Latta whittled away to knot the score at 15 with 2:55 remaining in the first half. With 1:35 remaining in the first half, Latta had taken the lead, 17-15 which would be the score at halftime. Each team committed 5 fouls in the second quarter.
Latta will host East Clarendon on Wednesday, January 29. On Friday, January 31, Latta will travel to Green Sea Floyds.
Lake View will travel to Carvers Bay on Friday, January 31.
