The Latta Lady Vikings defeated the Ridgeland Lady Jaguars 59-20 in the first round of the SCHSL basketball playoffs held in Latta on Monday, February 16.
Latta controlled the tipoff and scored. At the end of the first quarter, Latta was up 9-2. Latta committed 2 fouls in the first quarter, and Ridgeland committed 1 foul. At halftime, Latta was up 18-9. Latta committed 2 fouls, and Ridgeland committed only 1 foul.
In the beginning of the third quarter, K. Herman sank a free throw. A scramble for a loose basketball created some excitement. Ridgeland’s #20 attempted a shot followed by Latta with a 2-point basket. Latta’s A. Tisdale took a shot, missed, and followed up with a rebound and a 2-point basket. With 3:56 remaining in the third quarter, Latta was up 33-11. With 2:47 remaining in the third quarter, Latta was up 36-14. After 3 quarters of play, Latta was up 40-13. Each team committed 5 fouls in the quarter.
With 3:05 remaining in the game, Latta was up 52-17. Ridgeland’s #20 sank the final 2-point basket of the game. Latta committed 4 fouls in the final quarter, and Ridgeland committed 3 fouls.
Latta’s Kaliya Herman led the scoring with 25 points. Aliyah Tisdale, Summer Page, and Aubrey Williams each added 10 points to the scoreboard for the Lady Vikings. Ke’nyah Page, Jeziyah Page, and Eri’ana Crawford each scored 2 points.
Latta is 18-4 overall and 11-1 in region play. Latta’s head coach is Bobby Richardson. He is assisted by Tony McRae and Riana Green. The statistician is Sandra Gomillion.
