The Latta Vikings defeated the Dillon Wildcats 14-3 in a 5-inning varsity baseball game played in Dillon on Tuesday, April 3.
The Wildcats scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead that would not hold as the Vikings tacked on 5 runs in the top of the second inning. Latta added 2 runs in the top of the third inning while Dillon added a run to the scoreboard. Latta managed 5 runs in the top of the fourth while holding Dillon scoreless. The Vikings connected for 2 runs in the top of the fifth while Dillon added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to close out the game.
Latta’s Seth Minshew pitched 2 innings and allowed 1 hit, 1 run that was earned, walked 1, and struck out 3. Preston Brown also pitched 2 innings. He allowed 3 hits, 1 run that was earned, and struck out 1. Fisher Richardson pitched 1 inning and allowed 2 hits, 1 run, and walked 1.
Dillon’s Jamison Pittman pitched 1 inning and allowed 6 hits, 5 runs, walked no one, and struck out 1. Dan Graves pitched an inning and allowed 1 hit, 2 earned runs, and walked 2. Brenden Miles pitched 1 inning and allowed 1 hit, 5 runs of which only 1 was earned, walked 4, and struck out 1. Mason Jackson pitched 2 innings and allowed 4 hits, 2 runs that were not earned, walked no one, and struck out 2.
Latta’s Eli Jones had a hit and 3 rbi in 4 at-bats. Fisher Richardson had a single and a double with 2 rbi in 4 at-bats. Seth Minshew connected for a single in 3 at-bats and scored a run. Mason Weatherford had 2 singles and a double in 4 at-bats. R.W. Berry had a single in 4 at-bats. Preston Brown had 2 singles and 2 walks in 4 at-bats with a rbi and also scored 2 runs. Logan Byrd had 2 singles and a walk with 4 rbi and scored 2 runs in 3 at-bats. Greyson Williamson had a single, a walk, and scored a run in 3 at-bats. Nick Lae had a single, a walk, scored a run, and a rbi in 2 at-bats.
Dillon’s Dan Graves was perfect at the plate with 3 hits in 3 at-bats and scored runs. Ryan Carter connected for a double and a walk in 3 plate appearances. Mason Jackson had a single in 2 at-bats. JJ Campbell had a single in 3 at-bats. Bryson Davis garnered a walk.
Dillon committed 4 errors in the game while Latta committed 2 errors.
