The Lake View Wild Gators won 26-20 on Friday, August 29, in varsity football action played in Lake View with the Lake View and Mullins bands encouraging the teams.
Lake View scored first on an interception by #1 who returned the football 44 yards for the score with 9:22 remaining in the first quarter. The 2-point pass conversion gave Lake View an 8-0 lead.
Mullins was pressing and was heading for a score when #2, Kanazzion Bethea, fumbled and Lake View recovered on their own 6-yard line.
The Wild Gators were unable to move the ball. On fourth down, Chase Price punted and Lake View had the football on Lake View’s 35-yard line. After a first down by Mullins, the Auctioneers’ #5 carried the pigskin into the endzone for a 14-yard TD. On the 2-point conversion play, Mullins’ quarterback, #2 tossed the football to #5 for the 2 points to knot the score at 8 each with 1:33 remaining in the first quarter.
On the Mullins’ kickoff to the Wild Gators, the Wild Gators fumbled, and Mullins recovered.
On a high snap, the Auctioneers lost big yardage, and Mullins’ #9 punted.
Lake View reeled off 2 consecutive first downs on pass plays to #13. With 5:39 remaining in the second quarter, Chase Price connected with #5 in the end zone for the score. The 2-point attempted pass was deflected and failed. Lake View led 14-8.
After Mullins received the kickoff, Mullins’ #1 caught a pass and rushed for a first down. A completed pass to the Auctioneers’ #10 was good for a 20-yard gain. Mullins faced a fourth down and 4 and came up short on a carry by #2, Kanazzion Bethea. Lake View took over on their own 40-yard line.
Lake View’s Chase Price punted on fourth and 9 with 55.8 seconds remaining in the first half.
Lake View led 14-8 at halftime.

Lake View’s #2, Kanazzion Bethea, took the opening kickoff of the third quarter. The Wild Gators’ #2, Jalen Clarke, raced for a 55-yard TD with 11:40 remaining in the third quarter. The 2-point conversion attempt failed. Lake View led 20-8.
The Mullins quarterback quickly reeled off a completed pass followed by another 39-yard completion to #11 that was followed by another completion to #16. However, the Auctioneers came up short on a fourth and 2 and turned the pigskin over to Lake View.
Lake View’s Chase Price kept for a 2-yard gain followed by a 2-yard loss by #11. Faced with a third down and 10 yards to go, Lake View went to the air and received a 15-yard penalty against Mullins to give the Wild Gators a first and 10 on the 48-yard line. Lake View’s #2, Jalen Clarke, carried for 6 yards. A snap over Lake View’s quarterback ended in a discussion as it was believed that no one had possession of the football when blown dead. However, the Mullins Auctioneers took over and wasted no time with Mullins’ #11 scored on a 25-yard reception. Mullins’ quarterback, Kanazzion Bethea, scored on the 2-point conversion but there was a flag on the play. Mullins attempted a pass that was intercepted by Lake View’s #9 to prevent the 2-point score. Lake View led 20 to 14 in this exciting game.
Lake View took the kickoff on the 38-yard line. Chase Price tossed a 4-yard pass to #6. Chase Price kept for a 5-yard pickup. After Lake View’s #2 lost a yard, he picked up a first down on fourth and 2 with a 4-yard gain. Chase Price kept for a first down. After a 2-yard loss by #19, Chase Price carried and fumbled that was recovered by Mullins. However, Lake View retained possession as there was a penalty against the Mullins Auctioneers.
After 3 quarters of play, Lake View was up 20-14.
Mullins’ #10 intercepted a pass and returned it to Lake View’s 48-yard line. Mullins faced a third down and 13 yards to go. A completed pass to #5 was good for 12 yards. On fourth and 1, the quarterback kept for a first down. Lake View committed a facemask call that added 15 yards to the play for the Auctioneers. A completed pass to #12 was good for a first and 10 on Lake View’s 15-yard line. Mullins’ quarterback was dropped in the backfield for an 11-yard loss. Mullins faced a second down and 21 yards to go. With 8:53 remaining in the game, Mullins’ #10 caught a pass and scored. However, a penalty nullified the play. Mullins’ #2 carried the football into the end zone from 36 yards out with 8:36 remaining in the game. The Auctioneers’ #12 was stopped on the 2-point conversion attempt. The score was knotted at 20.
Mullins attempted an onside kick that gave the Lake View Wild Gators great field position on the Mullins’ 37-yard line. Lake View’s #9 scored a 1-yard TD with 5:30 remaining in the game. Lake View’s #2, Jalen Clarke, was stopped on the 2-point conversion attempt. Lake View led 26-20.
Mullins had a first and 10 on Mullins’ own 25-yard line. The Mullins quarterback kept for a 6-yard gain. Lake View’s #1 prevented a pass completion that was intended for Mullins’ #11. A reception to the Auctioneers’ #12 was good for a first down. Mullins #16 picked up a fumble, carried the football and fumbled and Mullins recovered with 3:34 remaining in the game. With 3:18 left to be played, Lake View’s #2, Jalen Clarke, intercepts a pass and returned it to the Mullins’ 44-yard line. Lake View ran out the clock to close with a hard-fought win!
Lake View will have a “bye” on Friday, September 5. Lake View will host Scott’s Branch on Friday, September 12, at 7:30 p.m.
Mullins will host Green Sea Floyds on Friday, September 5, at 7:30 p.m.
