The Lake View Wild Gators defeated the Hannah-Pamplico Raiders 8-4 on Saturday, May 18, in Lake View to become the SCHLS 1-A Lower State Champions in varsity softball.
The Lady Raiders got onto the scoreboard in the top of the first inning with 2 runs. #1 hit a grounder to short for a single and stole second. A sac grounder move her to third followed by a sac grounder to second and the first run scored. A walk, a passed ball, a stolen base, and a single to right accounted for the second score.
The Lady Wild Gators loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning with only 1 out but were unable to score.
No one scored in the second inning.
In the bottom of the third inning, Emma King led off with a triple. King scored to cut the lead to only 1. Keleigh Blackmon punched one over third base for a single, and Raven Locklear walked to place runners on first and second. Hollie Scott dropped one over second for a single and a rbi to knot the score at 2. The Lady Wild Gators loaded the bases again with only one out but could not score.
In the bottom of the third inning, Emma King led off with a walk. Raven Locklear hit a hot grounder to short that Hannah-Pamplico’s short stop made a good stop to hold runners on first and second. Hanna Coburn hit a grounder down the third base line for a single and a rbi to give Lake View a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, The Lady Raiders’ #7 was hit by a pitch. She stole second, and a passed ball moved here to third. #15 was hit by a pitch. Now,the Lady Raiders had base runners on the corners. #13 hit one by third for a single and a rbi to knot the score at 3. Hannah-Pamplico’s #2 bunted and a run score to give the Lady Raiders a 4-3 lead.
Lake View’s #6 lined one to center for a single. #3, Kay Lynn Turner, bunted and arrived at first on an error. Lake View’s #14, Madison, sac bunted to move the runners to second and third. #18 bunted and arrived at first on an error and a run scored to knot the score at 4. Emma King had a sac fly to center that scored a run that left a runner on third. Kaleigh Blackmon bunted safely and a run scored to give Lake View a 6-4 lead. Raven Locklear hit one that bounced one to the fence for a double to place runners at second and third with 2 outs. The inning ended on a high pop-up to short.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hollie Scott led off with a single to right. Lake View’s #6 Chloe Cox bunted safely to first as the catch at first was not in control. With runners on first and second, Kay Lynn Turner was out at second but 2 runs scored to give Lake View an 8-4 lead that would end the scoring in the game.
Lake View’s Raven Locklear picked up the win. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 4 runs, struck out 5, walked 2, and 4 were hit by a pitch.
Hannah-Pamplico’s #7 took the loss. She pitched 6 innings and allowed 8 runs, struck out 9, walked 1, and one was hit by a pitch.
Lake View Head Coach Brandy Huggins stated “We cannot allow what happens in the first part of the game to influence the rest of the game. Our team has come together in the past few weeks, especially with the bats. This helped us in this come from behind win.”
Lake View will host Lewisville on Monday, May 20.
