Lake View Lady Gators Edge Out Lady Vikings 4-3

The Lake View Lady Wild Gators edged the Latta Lady Vikings 4-3 in varsity softball played in Latta on Monday, May 13.
Lake View jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Emma King arrived on an error and moved to second on the same play. Kaleigh Blackmon singled to third and King moved to third. Kaleigh Blackmon stole second base. Raven Locklear garnered a walk to load the bases. Hanna Coburn singled on a grounder to center and King and Blackmon scored.
Latta’s Katelynn Johnson singled on a line drive to right after Chayse Walters hit a fly to left for an out. The next 2 batters for Latta grounded out to end the first inning.
Lake View was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the second inning.
After a walk to A. Hyatt, the next 3 batters went down 1-2-3.
Raven Locklear hit a line drive to right for a single. Hanna Coburn hit a sacrifice to advance Locklear to second. Hollie Scott hit a grounder to center and Locklear scored to give Lake View a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
M. Kersey garnered a leadoff walk in the bottom of the third inning to get the offense moving for Latta. Katelynn Johnson doubled on a line drive to right and M. Kersey scored. Maddie Berry singled on a pop fly to center. Katelynn Johnson scored on a wild pitch to cut Lake View’s lead 3-2.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Latta knotted the score at 3 when Emily Smith hit a grounder and arrived safely on an error. J. Miller hit a line drive to center and Emily Smith moved to second on the play. M. Kersey sacrificed a bunt to advance the base runners to second and third. Chayse Walters hit a line drive to left that scored Emily Smith.
In the top of the fifth inning, Lake View’s Raven Locklear hit a hard grounder to center for a single. Hanna Coburn sac bunted to move Locklear to second. Hollie Scott hit a line drive to center and Raven Locklear scored to go up 4-3.
Raven Locklear picked up the win for the Wild Gators. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 6 hits, 3 runs of which 2 were earned, struck out 3, and walked 2.
Maddie Berry took the loss for Latta. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 8 hits, 4 runs of which 3 were earned, struck out 10, and walked 2.
Latta committed 2 errors in the game, and Lake View committed 1 error.
Lake View’s Raven Locklear had 2 hits, a walk, and scored 2 runs in her 4 plate appearances. Hollie Scott had 2 hits and 2 ribi in 3 at-bats. Hanna Coburn had a hit and 2 rbi in her 2 at-bats. Emma King had a hit and scored a run in her 4 at-bats. Kaleigh Blackmon had a hit, scored a run, and stole a base in her 4 at-bats. K. Turner had a hit in her 3 at-bats. C. Cox garnered a walk in the game.
Latta’s Katelynn Johnson had 2 hits, a rbi, and scored a run in her 4 at-bats. Maddie Berry, Paisley Jackson, and J. Miller each had a hit in 3 at-bats. Emily Smith and M. Kersey each scored a run. A. Hyatt and M. Kersey each garnered a walk in the game.
On Wednesday, May 15, Latta will face Hannah-Pamplico at 6:00 p.m.
