Lake View Defeats Marion in Season Opener

The Lake View Wild Gators defeated the Marion Swamp Foxes 42-0 in the season opener varsity football game played in Lake View on Thursday, August 22.
Lake View’s Caden Huggins kicked off for the Wild Gators to begin the season. Marion’s offense could not get moving and was forced to punt.
On the first offensive play for Lake View, Tyrell Foxworth rushed for a first down. With 9:31 remaining in the first quarter, Kason Herlong connected with Ashton Locklear with a touchdown pass to give Lake View a 6-0 lead. Lucas Schamp’s PAT was good, and Lake View led 7-0.
After Lake View’s defense held Marion, Lake View took over. On the fourth offensively play, Tyrell Foxworth scored from 2 yards out with 6:24 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT was good by Lucas Schamp to give the Wild Gators a 14-0 lead.
Once again, the Swamp Foxes were forced to punt. Marion’s #4, Tyrice Davis punted, and Lake View took over on their own 45-yard line. With 1:06 remaining in the first quarter, Tyrell Foxworth scored from 24 yards out to give the Wild Gators a 20-0 lead. Lucas Schamp’s PAT was good. Lake View led 21-0.
Marion’s #48, Kameron Smith-Moody, took the kick off and returned it to Lake View’s 20-yard line. Marion’s offense could not move the football and Lake View took over.
Lake View was forced to punt. #1, Malachi Graham, for Marion had a good punt return. Once again, the Marion offense was stopped. Lake View took over on their own 38-yard line. After 4 offensively plays with one being a 23-yard pickup by Kason Herlong, Lance Jackson scored with 5:03 remaining in the second quarter. Lucas Schamp’s PAT was good to give Lake View a 28-0 lead.
Marion’s #1 returned the kickoff for 17 yards. Marion’s quarterback completed a 9-yard pass before the drive was stalled. Marion’s quarterback punted. Lake View took over on their own 29-yard line. With 1:26 remaining before halftime, Tyrell Foxworth scored. The PAT was good by Lucas Schamp. Lake View was up 35-0.
In the third quarter with the clock running, Lake View’s Caleb Myers carried the pigskin into the end zone for 6 points. Lucas Schamp’s PAT was good. Lake View was up 42-0 after 3 quarters of play.
1 A Lake View’s head coach is Daryl King. His assistant coaches are Cloy Ford, Andy Ford, Kip Herlong, Jeffrey Ceasar, Larry Inman, Kevin Hamilton, Mac Brey, Will Daniels, and Will Arnette.
The Division AA, Region 7 Marion football team’s head coach is Brian Hennecy. Some of the assistant coaches include Demetrious Johnson, Randy Dennison, Dray Pearson, Keshawn Rowell, Yamasi Buey, and Mike Donald.
On Friday, August 30, Lake View will travel to Mullins for a 7:30 p.m. game. Marion will host Latta for a 7:30 p.m.
