The Lake View Wild Gators defeated the Hemingway Tigers 49-0 in varsity football action played in Lake View on Thursday, September 26.
The rain had been coming down for some time. The field was wet. Yet, those who were present for the football game and the Homecoming activities were ready for the action to begin.
With 8:25 remaining in the first quarter, the Wild Gators’ quarterback, Kason Herlong, scored a rushing touchdown. The Lucas Shamp’s PAT was good.
The Wild Gators picked up a safety as the 14-player Hemingway team could not get the offense going and their backs were against the “wall”.
With 5:49 remaining in the first quarter, Lake View’s Tyrell Foxworth tacked on a 6-point TD. The Lucas Shamp’s PAT was good. Lake View led 16-0.
On 23 seconds ticked off the game clock before Lake View added another touchdown by Lance Jackson to give the Wild Gators a 22-0 lead. The PAT was good. Lake View led 23-0.
With 2:48 remaining in the first quarter< Lake View's Yuri Richardson returned a punt for a score. Shamp added the PAT to give Lake View a 30-0 lead.
With 2:35 remaining in the first quarter, Christopher Rice returned a fumble for a touchdown for the Wild Gators. Again, the PAT was good to give Lake View a 37-0 lead.
Lake View's Jalen Clark scored with 10:19 remaining in the first half. The PAT failed. Lake View led 43-0.
The Wild Gators' defense blocked a punt. With 2:27 remaining in the first half, Brayden Borders scored. The PAT failed. Lake View led 49-0.
During the rain at halftime, Lake View held the Homecoming ceremonies.
In the second half, neither team placed any points onto the scoreboard.
Although Hemingway had only 14 players, the team and coaching staff did not give up.
Lake View will host Hannah-Pamplico on Friday, October 4, at 7:30 p.m. This will be Lake View's "Senior Night".
Hemingway will host Johnsonville on Friday, October 4, at 7:30 p.m.
