The Lake View Wild Gators advanced to the next round of the varsity football playoffs with 42-32 win over the Bamberg-Ehrhardt Red Raiders on Friday, November 29, in Lake View, S.C.
The game was played on a cold night with fans cheering on both sides of the football field.
Jalen Clarke returned the opening kickoff for Lake View. The Bamberg-Ehrhardt defense caught Tyrell Foxworth in the backfield for a loss on the first play but he managed to carry the second time for a gain. On the third play of the first offensive series for Lake View, Kason Herlong scampered 64-yards for the touchdown with 10:31 remaining in the first quarter. The PAT was not good. Lake View led 6-0.
With 6:54 remaining in the first quarter, the Red Raiders’ Chanston Crosby scored. The PAT was good by Chaz Breland to give Bamberg-Ehrhardt a 7-6 lead.
After Lake View picked up a first down, Lake View’s offense sputtered, and Chase Price punted.
The Red Raiders failed to pick up a first down, and David Hyatt punted.
On the third down of the next offensive series for Lake View, Tyrell Foxworth crossed the goal line with a 16-yard rushing touchdown. The 2-point conversion was good to Lance Jackson. Lake View was up 14-7 with 10:33 remaining in the second quarter.
The Red Raiders quickly answered with a 35-yard pass completion to Jason Youmans for the score with 8:43 remaining in the first half. Chaz Breland’s PAT was blocked. Lake View led 14-13.
After 2 first down pickups by Tyrell Foxworth, Lance Jackson was on the receiving end of a pass that was good for a 53-yard touchdown. Lucas Schamp’s PAT was good. The Wild Gators led 21 to 13.
With 2:36 remaining in the first half, Bamberg-Ehrhardt’s #27 returned the kickoff for 55 yards for the touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt failed. Lake View led 21 to 19.
After a pass interference call against the Red Raiders, a first down pickup by Tyrel Foxworth, a pass completion to Lance Jackson was good for a 35-yard touchdown with 31.4 seconds remaining in the first half. Lucas Schamp’s PAT was good. Lake View led 28-19.
Time expired in the first half with Chanston Crosby carrying the football.
With 11:12 remaining in the third quarter, Marcus Cann, Jr. carried the football into the end zone on a 48-yard pass play. Chaz Breland’s PAT was good. The Wild Gators held a 2-point, 28-26, lead over the Red Raiders.
Brian McMillan intercepted a pass with 10:11 remaining in the third quarter. Bamberg-Ehrhardt was forced to punt with 8:33 remaining in the third quarter.
On fourth down, Lake View punted to Bamberg-Ehrhardt’s 37-yard line.
The Red Raiders’ offense began to click, and Bamberg-Ehrhardt found themselves in the end zone on a 5-yard keeper by Chanston Crosby for the score. The 2-point conversion attempted pass failed. Bamberg-Ehrhardt led 32 to 28 over Lake View.
After 3 quarters of play, the Red Raiders were on top 32 to 28.
With 10:26 remaining in the game, Lake View’s Tyrell Foxworth rushed for a 35-yard touchdown. The PAT was good by Lucas Schamp. Lake View led 35-32.
After a pass reception by Rocky Waller, and another pass reception to Brian McMillan, Bamberg-Ehrhardt’s offense stalled and came up short with a pass attempt on fourth down and 9 yards to go. Lake View took over on downs.
After Tyrell Foxworth carried for 8 yards, then picked up a first down, Tyrell Foxworth carried to the 2-inch spot before the goal line with 2:24 remaining in the game. After losing yardage, Tyrell Foxworth scored from 10 yards out with 59.8 seconds remaining in the game. Lucas Schamp’s PAT was good. Lake View led 42 to 32 and this would be the final score of the game.
Lake View will face Cross on Friday, December 6, at 7:00 p.m.
