The Latta Lady Vikings defeated the Johnsonville Lady Flashes 9-4 on Saturday, May 11.
Latta wasted little time in scoring. In Latta’s first bat of the game in the bottom of the first inning, Latta’s Katelynn Johnson hit a line drive to center for a single. Paisley Jackson hit a line drive to right for a single to advance Katelynn Johnon to third. A. Hyatt got a double out of a pop fly to right that Katelynn Johnson scored to give Latta a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second inning, J. Miller hit a grounder to center for a single. Erika Roberts garnered a walk to place runners on first and second. M. Kersey bunted safely to load the bases. Katelynn Johnson homered to add 4 runs to the scoreboard. Maddie Berry hit a line drive to center for a double. On a groundout, the runner moved to third base. The inning ended with Latta up 5-0.
In the bottom of the third inning, J. Miller garnered a walk. Erika Roberts arrived on base due to an error, and J. Miller moved to second base. M. Kersey garnered a walk to load the bases. Katelynn Johnson hit a line drive to left and 2 runs scored. Latta was up 7-0 after 3 innings.
Johnsonville’s Nicole hit a line drive to center for a double. Blair garnered a walk. Peyton hit into a fielder’s choice. The runner was out at third, and the runner at first moved to second. Mallory hit a ground ball to center and Blair scored with Claire moving to third. Claire scored on a wild pitch, and Mallory moved to second. Allison garnered a walk. Natalee hit a ground ball and arrived safely due to an error. Brianna hit a sac fly to center, and Mallory scored to cut Latta’s lead to 4 runs, Latta 7 and Johnsonville 3.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Latta’s Erika Roberts hit a grounder to third for a single. R. Hunt came in as a pinch runner. She advanced to second on a wild pitch. M. Kersey hit a grounder to short for a single, and the runner advanced to third. Chayse Walters hit a pop up to short and was out on a fielder’s choice, and R. Hunt was out attempting to score. Katelynn Johnson hit a fly to right, and M. Kersey scores as Latta goes up 9-3.
In the top of the seventh inning, Krista reached first on a dropped third strike. On a ground out, Krista moved to second. Nicole hit a grounder to second and was out but Krista scored to cut Latta’s lead 9-4.
Maddie Berry picked up the win for Latta. She pitched 7 innings and allowed 3 hits, 4 runs of which 3 were earned, struck out 3, and walked 3.
Johnsonville’s Nicole pitched 4 innings. She allowed 9 hits, 8 runs of which 5 were earned, struck out 2, and walked 3. C. Smith pitched 2 innings. She allowed 3 hits, 1 earned run, struck out 1, and walked no one.
Latta committed 2 errors in the game while Johnsonville committed only 1 error.
