Thelma Ann Taylor Burns, 87, daughter of Thelma J. Taylor Mobley passed away peacefully on the morning of August 15, 2025. She was born on June 16, 1938 in Dillon, South Carolina and spent her life offering her service to the town she loved.
Thelma graduated from Dillon High School in 1956. She worked for Dillon School District Two retiring in 2000. She was a member of Latta Presbyterian Church where she served as Deacon, Elder, Treasurer, Women’s President, Sunday School Teacher, and was a member of the choir. She served the town of Dillon as Committee Member and Secretary of the National Historical Register for Downtown, Docent for the J. W. Dillon House and the Dillon County Museum. Mrs. Burns also volunteered her time to the McLeod Medical Center- Dillon Auxiliary where she held positions of Secretary, Vice-President, and Director.
Thelma is survived by two wonderful sons, Douglas McDonald Burns of Dillon, SC and Eric Monroe Burns and his wife Michele of Fort Mill, SC. She is also survived by five Grandchildren: Jonathan, Ericka, Timothy, Ryan, and Jade; five Great Grandchildren: Caleb, Elijah, Anabelle, Elizabeth, and Drayton. She is also survived by her brother, John David Taylor and his wife Iris; her sister-in-law, Patsy Taylor of Savannah, Ga, and eight nieces and nephews. Thelma Ann was predeceased by her mother, Thelma J. Mobley, her brother, Bruce Taylor and her daughter-in-law, Jessica Burns.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Latta Presbyterian Church with Reverend Buddy Bach officiating. The family will receive friends form 12:00 to 1:00 PM in the church prior to the service. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Kannaday Funeral Home in Dillon is assisting the family.
