LATTA – Alton Glenn Greene, Jr., 87, passed away at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC December 24, 2025. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 2025 at the Latta Methodist Church with entombment in Magnolia Cemetery. Reverend Matthew Scott will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta is assisting the family.
Glenn was born February 23, 1938 in Richmond, Virginia, the son of the late Alton Glenn Greene and Maude Hunter Greene. He was widower of Belva Finklea Greene. Glenn was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Swim Team, and USC Law School. He was a member of Latta Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible Class and a past member of various church boards. He started practicing law in Latta in 1962 with Norwood Gasque and was the Town of Latta Attorney for fifty years. He was a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and Dillon County Bar, member and Past Master of Dalcho Lodge #160 in Latta, SC, and a former member and Past Fire Chief of the Latta Fire Department for fifty years. Glenn was a former member and Past Chairman of the Latta Area School Board, former member and Past-President of the Latta Rotary Club. He was honored as the Citizen of the Year in 2019. He was a former member of the Dillon County Rifle and Gun Club where he was Marksman of the Year in 1973. He received The Silver Beaver Award from the Pee Dee Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He established the Maude and A. G. Greene Scholarship at Francis Marion University. He was a Ham Radio hobbyist (KE4GV).
Glenn is survived by his son, Alton Glenn Greene, III (Beth) and daughter Polly Greene Haselden (Scott) both of Latta, SC; grandchildren, Lola Haselden, Sophie Haselden, Rachel Brown, and Jessica Brown; and nieces and nephews.
