An exciting project is coming to Dillon County. Bryan Braddock announced on his podcast, SC Keys, One Key at a Time Episode 1, Part 2, that S.C. Keys and some investor partners are going to be doing a major project at the Dillon County Airport. He said that they would be taking the runway and using it as the infrastructure for a gated private community focused on meeting the housing needs for workforce housing and attainable housing. He said they will be working with the city and county.
One piece is the airport and making it housing. In the back, they are looking to put in some recreational facilities on some property that the county is giving them for $1 dollar that will tie into the Dillon Motor Speedway.
It is being done through a land conveyance. They have about 120-140 acres that is primarily wetlands that cannot be used for housing or commercial. It cannot be used for building. Braddock said he has to invest $500,000 into a project for the community. He said the county is incentivizing investment for the community. Braddock said the plans call for a ropes course, zipline and motorized course with sides by side, four-wheelers, and tying it in to the raceway next door.
