The Heritage Lady Mountaineers of Tennessee defeated the Dillon Lady Wildcats 10-2 in varsity softball on Tuesday, March 11, in Dillon.
The game was knotted at 2 after 3 innings of play.
In the top of the fourth inning, Heritage’s #2 walked and advance to second on a passed ball. Heritage’s #31 garnered a walk to place runners on first and second. Both runners advanced to second and third on a passed ball. Heritage’s #12 struck out swinging for out 1 followed by #20 who also struck out swinging. With 2 outs, Heritage’s #3 hit one to second and the throw got by first to allow 2 runs to score to give Heritage a 4-2 lead. Heritage’s #5 hit one up the middle for a single and a rbi and was safe at second. Heritage’s #4 garnered a walk. Heritage’s #7 hit a hot grounder by third for a single and a rbi to leave runners on first and second with 2 outs. The base runners advanced to second and third on a passed ball. Heritage’s #11 also garnered a walk to load the bases. Heritage’s #2 popped up for out 3. However, Heritage added 4 runs with 2 outs to give the Mountaineers a 6-2 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Heritage’s #31 led off with a home run to give the Mountaineers a 7-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Dillon was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
The Mountaineers tacked on a run in the top of the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Dillon’s #13 led off with a walk.
After 6 innings of play, the Mountaineers led 8-2.
Dillon is 2-3 for the season
Dillon will travel to Latta on Thursday, March 13, at 7:00 p.m.
