HEADSET HEROES: Cynthia Richardson–ATAC Officer

Editor’s Note: We are featuring the Headset Heroes of Dillon County 9-1-1. Today, we are featuring Cynthia Richardson, ATAC Officer.

Position at 9-1-1: ATAC Officer

Cynthia Richardson has worked at 9-1-1 for 17 years. She has always had a desire to work with the community. When she first started in 2008, she says it was not a bed of roses, but through the course of being dedicated and focused, she pursued the challenges. Now in 2025, she is the Training Officer for Dillon County and has taken on the task of training others to work through the challenges of being a HEADSET HERO.
Training others to maneuver through the challenges of the calls that come in and find the joy of knowing she has helped someone are her favorite parts of the job.
Prior to working at 9-1-1, Cynthia was in customer service. She was in high school and worked at Burger King in Dillon and furthered her career in customer service in home health care where she learned the importance of helping others.
Cynthia is NCIC Certified, Security and Awareness, ATAC certified, recipient of the Palmetto Award in 2000, EFD, EMD, EPD, and SCCJA E911.
She is married to Milton Richardson, has a daughter Amber Hayes, and has a granddaughter, Ahsha Autrey.
Her hobbies include reading and spending time with her grandchildren
She hopes that everyone will see the work and commitment that is in the 911 center and how vital they are to the community as first responders.
