Florence Christian Edges Dillon Christian 29-28 In Boys JV Basketball Action

The Florence Christian School Eagles edged the Dillon Christian School Warriors 29-28 in junior varsity basketball action played in Dillon on Tuesday, February 4.
Dillon Christian School controlled the tipoff. After a missed shot by Dillon Christian, Florence Christian’s #00 connected for 2 points that Dillon Christian’s #1 answered with a 2-point basket of his own. Florence Christian’s #12 sank a 3-point basket. Florence Christian’s #00 sank 1 of 2 free throws. After the first quarter of play, Florence Christian was up 6-2.
Florence Christian’s #12 connected for a 2-point basket that was answered by Dillon Christian’s #4 with his own 2-point basket. Dillon Christian’s #11 drove to the basket and sank his shot for 2 points. Florence Christian’s lead was cut to 2 points, 8-6. Florence Christian’s #00 scored a 2-point basket followed by a 2-point basket by #25. Dillon Christian’s #23 sank 2 free throws on the charity line. Florence Christian’s #00 connected for another 2-point basket to give the Eagles a 14-8 lead. The Eagles’ #12 shot as the buzzer sounder to end the first half. Florence Christian School led 14-8 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Florence Christian’s #00 sank a 2-point basket. On the next offensive play, Florence Christian’s #00 was double-teamed. Dillon Christian’s #11 sank a 3-point basket. Dillon Christian’s #4 hit a 3-point basket from the corner to cut the Eagles’ lead to 1 point, 17-16. In the fourth quarter, Dillon Christian’s #1 sank a 2-point basket for a 3-point Warrior lead. However, that would be short-lived as Florence Christian’s #12 tied the score with a 3-point shot from the corner. The Eagles’ #00 connected for a 2-point basket and followed with another 2-point basket to give Florence Christian a 4-point lead, 24-20. Florence Christian’s #00 again sank a 2-point basket to give the Eagles a 6-point lead, 26-20. The Warriors’ #1 hit a 2-point basket. Florence Christian’s #5 hit a 3-point shot from the top of the key to give the Eagles a 29-24 lead with 2:05 remaining in the game. The Warriors added a 2-point basket to cut the lead to 3 points, 29-26. Dillon Christian’s #11 3-point shot rimmed out of the basket. With 35.3 seconds remaining in the game, Dillon Christian’s #11 sank a shot. The Warriors had 2 more opportunities but came up short on both trips to the free throw line. The Eagles held on to win 29-28.
