The Evergreen Perpetual Care Cemetery & Mausoleum Luminary Service was held on Saturday, December 7, at 6:00 p.m.
This is a special occasion planned to assist you in honoring your loved one and friends buried and entombed here. The music, the meditation, and the lighting of the luminary candles are all designed to bring comfort and hope to you and your family as we celebrate God’s gift of memory.
This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it even as the night arrives and darkness cries out for light. God’s sunrise will come soon enough.
As we gather at the close of this day, we light candles in memory of loved ones who have departed this life. We call ourselves to worship with a reminder that candles were made for lighting. “You will light my candle, O Lord, and will turn darkness to light.” Psalm 18:28
As you light a candle, you help to dispel the darkness for others and help to remind each other that Jesus is the “Light of the World”. In John’s Gospel 8:12, we read: Jesus said, “I am the Light of the World; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life”.
Benny Cooper welcomed everyone to the Luminary Service that was held in a heated tent this year.
The Christmas Meditation was by Rev. Bryant Fersner. He spoke from Genesis 1:3, light, and Mark 5:21, the two miracles.
The Master’s 3 of Lugoff, S.C., sang many gospel songs to the delight of all who were present. One member of the Master’s 3 was not present as he had pneumonia.
The Christmas Melody of songs was performed by Gene Hill, Debbie Hill, Bobbie Lee, and Jimmy Tanner.
Benny Cooper gave the instructions for the lighting of the candles.
