Editorial: The New City of Dillon Police Department–A Job Well Done

Beauty, history, modern technology, and law and order have all met and blended together in the City of Dillon’s new police department.
The renovation of the new building brings the best of all of these things together and makes a spacious, modern new home for the police officers while taking great care to preserve the rich history of the building and the police department.
The new location makes the police department and the officers more visible to the public while increasing the police presence in the downtown area.
It unifies the police department under one roof which should make their operation more efficient and increase communication.
The building is a showplace that will be the cornerstone of the redevelopment of Dillon’s downtown. It stands as an example that the downtown buildings can be renovated and serve a purpose with a vision and an investment of time and money.
The city could have easily put a cookie-cutter metal building somewhere, but they are to be applauded for choosing to preserve the history and charm of this beautiful building in the heart of downtown.
This department will be a part of David Lane’s legacy as chief one day and will surely be seen as a gamechanger for the City of Dillon Police Department.
It will also be a nice ending note for City Manager Glen Wagner, who retires in March and whose vision and go-getter spirit has brought the City of Dillon a first class sports complex, a wellness center, a golf course, visitor center, and much more. His contributions to improving the quality of life in Dillon are unmatched by any previous city manager and this project will be no exception.
The new police department is a great addition to downtown and is a building of which everyone, but especially the citizens of Dillon, can be proud. Congratulations to all who played a part on a job well done.
