The Dillon Wildcats won over the visiting Aynor Blue Jackets in varsity basketball played in Dillon on Friday, January 31, 63-29.
The Dillon Wildcats were 7-7 overall and 2-2 in region play while Aynor was 6-12 overall and 0-5 in region play prior to the game.
After the presentation by the DHS JROTC, Aynor controlled the tipoff.
Dillon’s Zamaurious Robertson scored the first basket of the game with a layup for 2 points followed by a Dillon 2-point basket. Aynor answered with a 2-point basket of their own. Zamaurious Robertson connected for a 3-point basket from the top of the key to give Dillon a 9-2 lead. Dillon’s Jazier Walker grabbed a rebound and scored 2 points. Dillon’s #23 dropped one into the basket for 2 points. Dillon led 13-2 with 2:56 remaining in the first quarter. Lucas Kamp sank a free throw for Aynor followed by a 3-point Dillon basket by Zephaniah Campbell. Dillon’s #15 laid one in for 2 points. Markis Morrison sank a 3-point basket to give the Wildcats a 21-3 after the first quarter. Dillon committed 3 fouls in the first quarter while Aynor did not commit a foul.
Jamarion Mitchell sank a free throw for Aynor in the beginning of the second quarter. Dillon’s Rahmond Hamilton banked one in for 3 points to give Dillon a 24-4 lead with 5:58 remaining in the first half. After a 3-point attempt by Zamaurious Robertson, Dillon’s #21 sank a long 3-point shot. Dillon was up 29-4 with 4:15 remaining in the first half. The Wildcats’ #21 went the distance and laid one in for 2 points. Dillon’s Kyhiem Lester pulled down a rebound on a missed shot by Robertson and laid it in for 2 points. The Wildcats scored another basket and were up 36-9. Aynor’s Brady Lavin’s 3-point attempt rimmed out. At halftime, Dillon was up 36-9. Each team committed 2 fouls in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Dillon placed 12 points onto the scoreboard, and Aynor placed 9 points onto the scoreboard. In the final quarter, Dillon scored 15 points, and Aynor scored 11 points.
Dillon traveled to Georgetown on Saturday, February 1, for a 7:30 p.m. game. Dillon will host Marlboro County on Tuesday, February 4, for a 7:30 p.m. game.
Aynor will travel to Pawleys Island on Tuesday, February 4, to face Waccamaw at 7:30 p.m.
